As you are probably aware, each year, fans of a number of beloved TV shows are forced to say goodbye when their favorite programming comes to an end. On the other hand, there’s also always a lengthy list of shows canceled each year that simply did not find their audience. Last year, with the Hollywood strikes and contraction in the TV industry, the number of shows canceled in 2023 swelled to over 140.
In all honesty, chances are that 2024 will be the same. As the various streaming services raise prices and add in commercials to their plans in an attempt to become profitable, it will make financial sense to cut the shows that don’t have a big enough audience to justify their existence. Likewise, as beloved shows get older, they get more expensive. Even The Walking Dead, one of the biggest juggernauts on TV, ultimately stopped making anywhere near as much financial sense by the time it ended in 2022, with new spin-offs taking its place.
While it’s still early in the year, we’re already tracking up quite a lengthy list of the shows being given the ax this year. Make sure to bookmark this story, as we will be regularly updating the list as shows get canceled.
And remember: Just because they’re canceled doesn’t mean you can’t still watch them streaming somewhere–unless they are being canceled for a tax write-down and could theoretically simply disappear off the face of the earth. Then again, maybe they’ll all wind up on the Roku Channel.
