Who needs expensive design firms when you can just recruit seven-year-olds to do your graphic design?
Lane 8 is celebrating last week’s release of his wondrous new album, Childish, the cover of which features a goofy cartoon face made out of Perler beads. In a new thread looking back at the creation of the record, the deep house superstar opened up about how its artwork was created by his own kids.
The influential deep house producer, whose real name is Daniel Goldstein, explains that the title “Childish” had merely been an idea until he saw his children making crafts on a Sunday morning. At that point, one of the creations made him realize that he and their mother had landed on the album’s concept and art.

The artwork and Perler bead designs created by Goldstein’s kids were then used to formulate the music video for the album’s titular track. Check out the whimsical video, which was directed by Patrick Atkins, below.
Goldstein is now giving fans a chance to channel their inner child by virtue of a new initiative launched on his website. Inspired by the work of his children, fans can recreate the cover art of Childish with new colors and designs before sharing their work to a gallery on Lane 8’s website.
Childish released September 27th, 2024 via Lane 8’s own record label, This Never Happened. You can listen to the full album below and find it on streaming platforms here.
